Snap Lake Mine receives 2009 John T. Ryan Western Regional Safety Award
De Beers Canada Snap Lake Mine has been awarded the 2009 John T. Ryan Western Regional Safety Award in the Select Mines Category. The award was announced at the annual Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy & Petroleum (CIM) Conference in Vancouver during the Gala event May 10, 2010.
This award is in recognition of Safety Excellence demonstrated by all employees and contractors at Snap Lake throughout 2009. “I encourage everyone to take heart from this award, and set your sight on safety in 2010 in a way that will ensure sustainability of the strong safety culture we developed in 2009,” said Snap Lake Mine General Manager Brad Corrigan in a congratulatory note to Mine employees.
The John T. Ryan Safety Trophies Committee is comprised of senior provincial and territorial mines inspectors, as well as several provincial and territorial mining association representatives. Participants in the regional Select Mine category include all western Canadian open-pit metal mines, oil sands operations, and various other mines, including diamonds. The award recognizes mines which experience the lowest accident frequency in each of three categories – metal mine, coal mine and select mines.
The trophy won by Snap Lake is one of four regional awards for safety excellence in the Select Mine category. In addition, three national awards are presented.
