Glen Koropchuk
Glen Koropchuk joined De Beers Canada Inc. on November 1, 2011 bringing with him a multifaceted background and experience from mining projects and operations in Canada around the world.
As Chief Operating Officer, Glen is primarily responsible for the Northwest Territories and leading the Snap Lake Mine team and the Gahcho Kué Project. He reports directly to Tony Guthrie, President and Chief Executive Officer of De Beers Canada Inc.
Glen came to De Beers Canada Inc. from Anglo American Plc, where he had an extensive career, most recently as Chief Executive Officer of Anglo Coal Canada and Peace River Coal, managing Anglo American’s metallurgical coal assets in northeastern British Columbia.
Born and raised in Alberta, he started his mining career with Suncor in Fort McMurray, AB, as a junior engineer, and then joined Anglo American where he completed training in practical mining, engineering and supervision, in both underground and opencast coal operations in South Africa. After two years with the Anglo American and De Beers Chairman’s Fund in Johannesburg as Management Assistant and Special Projects Officer responsible for sustainable development projects in southern Africa, he moved through progressively more responsible positions. He has broad experience in Safety, Project Management, Environmental Management, Mining Engineering and Mining Operations, in a number of countries, including South Africa, Namibia, Mali, Brazil, Russia, Colombia, Venezuela, the UK and Canada.
He holds a B.Sc. Mining Engineering and M.Sc. Mineral Engineering from the University of Alberta.
