Education and Training
De Beers Canada is committed to furthering all our employees’ careers through education and training. Each employee receives training annually for both safety and personal development. We have professional training teams at our operations who coordinate development and delivery of numerous programs on an on-going basis.
In communities near our mines where access to the appropriate facilities and expertise are a challenge, De Beers Canada has partnered with the communities, all levels of government and other organizations to fund and build training centres for local community members to learn and develop new and transferable skills to prepare for work at one of our mines.
In Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, we have participated in the construction of the Kimberlite Career and Training Centre. In Attawapiskat First Nation in northern Ontario, we constructed the Marc Guevremont Training Centre in 2005 and are nearing completion of a second training facility scheduled to open in Q4 2009. Each centre provides up to date information and training for a number of professions, with an emphasis on practical applications.
