DE BEERS BRAZIL SELLS MARAVILHA DATA SET TO BRAZILIAN DIAMONDS LIMITED

Toronto - August 15, 2005 — De Beers confirms the sale of data relating to the Maravilha area to Brazilian Diamonds Limited. Maravilha is located in the Minas Gerais State, in southeast Brazil, approximately 150 km from Belo Horizonte.

In return for exploration data that covers an area of 64 sq kilometers, Brazilian Diamonds paid De Beers Brazil CDN $50,000 in cash, and issued 450,000 Brazilian Diamonds Limited shares at a value of CDN $250,000. As a result of the transaction, De Beers' shareholding in Brazilian Diamonds increased to 3.3%, with warrants to acquire a further 1.9% interest. This is the fourth transaction between De Beers and Brazilian Diamonds, strengthening the ties between the two companies.

The agreement covers all exploration data, including kimberlite locations, ground geophysics, sampling, drilling, mineralogical and mineral chemistry results as well as geochronological and petrographical reports. Sample concentrates and kimberlitic mineral grains will also be available to Brazilian Diamonds Limited.

"With the expansion of its database, Brazilian Diamonds improves its position to unlock diamond potential in Minas Gerais, and we are pleased to increase our exposure to the upside through our shareholding," said Bill McKechnie, De Beers Group Director of Exploration.

During the last three decades, De Beers Brazil has collected some 600,000 samples, conducted geophysics over an area of approximately 110,000 sq kilometres, and found over 1,200 kimberlites or related rocks in South America, the majority of which are in Brazil, with some in Venezuela and Bolivia. De Beers maintains an exploration presence in Brazil and a sorting laboratory in Brasilia.

De Beers Brazil was the first exploration company to achieve ISO 14001 certification in South America and, in the second half of 2004, its sorting laboratory was the first in the Federal District to obtain ISO 17025 accreditation.
