DE BEERS CONSIDERS ITS OPTIONS FOR VICTOR

De Beers is surprised by the announcement made by the Attawapiskat First Nation that they are terminating the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which is in effect between the company (then Monopros Ltd) and the Attawapiskat First Nation.

The company believes that the MOU provides an excellent framework for working with the First Nation. De Beers is taking the matter under legal review, is examining all options for the Victor project and will make an announcement on its position shortly.

De Beers recognizes and accepts the need for the community to take two months to do an internal review, however, the company believes that this can be accomplished under the framework of the November 1999 MOU and without stopping the community consultation process.
