De Beers has been in the business of recovering diamonds for over 100 years and has optimized the methods of extraction from every category of diamond deposit: kimberlite dykes, pipes, alluvial and fluvial deposits.
In the processing of each of these mineral deposits, De Beers has developed specific Diamond Value Management techniques, aimed at maintaining diamond value and optimizing process efficiency.
De Beers best practice ensures that the latest technology is effectively tested prior to being included as part of the "proven technology" portfolio of diamond processing equipment.
In Canada, De Beers has two mines which will both be in production by the first quarter of 2008, with a third project moving into a permitting phase following the completion of a study which included the pre-feasibility design of the processing section.
The Snap Lake Mine is currently in the final stages of construction and will commence commissioning activities in July 2007. Production is scheduled to start in September 2007.
The Victor Mine is currently in the construction phase with commissioning of the Recovery areas scheduled for November 2007, followed by the Main Treatment Plant (MTP) in January and February 2008. Production ramp-up is scheduled to start in April 2008..
The Gahcho Kué Project has completed a detailed study phase which included a pre-feasibility level design of the processing plant. Ore dressing studies were conducted to determine the characteristics of the material which will be treated through the Gahcho Kue facility. This information was used to support the design of the processing facility.
