The Snap Lake Project is owned and operated by De Beers Canada. The mine site is located approximately 220 kilometres northeast of Yellowknife.

The Snap Lake Project will be the third diamond mine in the Northwest Territories. De Beers Canada is eager to connect with Northerners who are interested in working for De Beers even if you are still in school!

De Beers Canada is committed to recruiting and hiring as many Northern Aboriginal people and other Northern residents as possible. In fact, De Beers Canada has developed a long-term strategic approach to the recruitment, training, employment and advancement of Northern Aboriginal people and Northern residents.

This guide will show you just how many different career paths you can take with De Beers. You will find information detailing the purpose and responsibilities of each job, as well as the skills, experience, education and training you will need to do that job. Starting your career planning today means that you will be ready to take your place with De Beers tomorrow.

Current estimates show the Snap Lake Project will be in production for at least 22 years, which means that all jobs will be long-term positions. De Beers is strongly committed to helping interested Northerners realize their employment potential with the Snap Lake Project. De Beers will not only use existing training programs (such as trades training programs) to prepare Northern workers, it will also establish new programs for training in specific areas (such as underground mine operations).

Approximately 550 full-time positions are expected to be required during mine production. Of these, it is expected that approximately 250 people will be on site at any given time. The majority of the jobs will be located at the mine site and will work an 11-hour or 12-hour day with regular rotation (probably two weeks in/two weeks out). A small number of positions will be based in Yellowknife and work a regular 40-hour, five-day week. Whether you work in Yellowknife or at the Snap Lake mine site, De Beers Canada will provide you with opportunities to develop your skills and advance your career.

A future with De Beers is a future full of possibility. Whether you choose a De Beers future in trades, engineering, administration, maintenance, human resources or public relations, you will be part of a company that seeks to strengthen and encourage its employees in their career pursuits.
